Guru Systems has been announced as one of the 34 climate tech companies accepted into Net Zero 3.0 – the third iteration of the Net Zero growth programme from Tech Nation.

Tech Nation’s Net Zero program assesses companies across a wide array of industries, highlighting promising climate tech companies that are accelerating the UK’s path to net zero.

Companies were judged based on their scalability and potential to help the UK reach its high-priority net zero goal. The chosen companies are actively decarbonising key sectors, from energy and transport to construction and agriculture.

This year’s cohort was assessed by over 50 judges across key industries, including climate specialists and investors.

Casey Cole, CEO, Guru Systems said:

“Guru Systems is delighted to have been selected onto Tech Nation’s third Net Zero programme. We’re looking forward to sharing our knowledge and experience with the rest of the cohort, including the 62 companies who were part of the programme in previous years.

“Guru Systems is working to accelerate the decarbonisation of heat – the hardest part of the UK’s journey to net zero. Support from Tech Nation helps companies like ours to scale at the pace needed if the UK is to meet its legally binding carbon reduction commitments.”

Shân Millie, founder of Bright Blue Hare and Net Zero 3.0 Judge, said

“Why does Tech Nation’s Net Zero programme matter? It’s not just the practical mechanics of the growth programme – it’s the visibility all applicant firms get with a diverse group of advisors but importantly from being part of a nationally and internationally-known initiative. The individual firms benefit, but the whole climate tech sector – and society – does too.”

Guru Systems and FairHeat are delighted to announce that our collaborative product Guru Verify has been shortlisted for the ‘Heat and Efficiency – Digital Innovation’ category at this year’s Decentralised Energy Awards.

Guru Verify is a mobile and web app for quicker, more cost effective acceptance testing. Deliver site-wide acceptance testing in line with ADE/CIBSE Heat Networks Code of Practice 2020 quickly and cost effectively.

The product combines FairHeat’s knowledge of acceptance testing and the technical skill of the product and engineering teams at Guru Systems.

“The increased level of transparency and accountability that Guru Verify enables means an increase in the effectiveness of the acceptance testing process and therefore better results. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the sites that have been through the Guru Verify testing process are the sites which are the best performing out of the sites we’ve worked on recently.” – Acceptance Testing Engineer

Mobile and web app

The Guru Verify mobile app is used on site to carry out the checks in the dwelling. The web app allows the user to define testing criteria and check dwelling status remotely, track progress across the entire site online and access results and photographic evidence for as long as is needed.

  • Real time centralised results support same day repairs
  • Useful commissioning certificates help hold your supply chain to account
  • Benchmark for future maintenance and efficiency improvements
  • Easy to use – designed for all levels of expertise

Guru Verify aims to make acceptance testing so quick and cost-effective that it is easy to go beyond the minimum requirements of CP1 2020 and instead enables best practice of testing 100% of dwellings on a network. This ensures maximum cost and carbon savings across the heat network from the first day of site handover and provides a rigorous benchmark for all maintenance and efficiency improvements delivered in the future.

Contributing to a low carbon future

To fulfil their potential, there is a requirement for heat networks to transition to low carbon heat sources. It is most likely that these will be primarily based on heat pump based generation. These systems require low operating temperatures, with good control over return temperatures – e.g. we need to see systems genuinely operate at 60°C flow / 30°C return. Unfortunately, heat networks in the UK are rarely commissioned properly, with high heat losses and return temperatures. By making acceptance testing quicker and cheaper, Guru Verify supports transition to low carbon heat networks.

The award winners will be announced in June 2022.

Guru Systems and Altecnic are proud to announce that we have been shortlisted in the ADE (Association for Decentralised Energy) Awards in the ‘Heat and Efficiency – Digital Innovation’ category, for our intelligent heating product, the Guru Integrate SATK32.

The award comes shortly after we announced our partnership with Altecnic.

Our Guru Integrate SATK32, which is the first-of-its-kind to market, has been recognised for its innovative functioning, which provides end users with numerous benefits. It enables remote commissioning for set up, network interrogation, and fault diagnosis, as well as continuous commissioning when in operation, reducing the need for engineers to visit the site and maximising heating efficiency.

Combining Altecnic’s next-generation heat interface unit, the SATK32 Indirect eHIU, with Guru System’s Hub 3 Core hardware, captures detailed data for both metering and billing purposes as well as enables advanced heat network performance management.

Faster and more reliable commissioning is also possible through remote configuration, reducing the amount of time and resources required on-site, and making it perfect, for example, for developers of new-build and retrofit properties.

Continuous remote commissioning reduces the need for engineers to visit the site for remedial work and reduces energy usage, environmental impact, and operating costs through network efficiency. Network efficiency drift can be easily seen and addressed remotely.

Guru Systems delivers market-leading hardware and data analytics across heat networks, improving heat network performance for developers, heat suppliers, customers, and our planet.

Since the company was founded in 2012, Guru Systems has delivered more than 28,000 devices across UK heat networks.

Gary Perry, Managing Director at Altecnic, said:

By working jointly with Guru Systems, we have together created a game-changing product that brings benefits to developers, landlords and end users alike. Not only does it save costs for all audiences, but the reduction of environmental impact is tremendous.

Being shortlisted for an ADE innovation award is a great accolade for the teams here at Altecnic and Guru Systems who have worked so hard to bring this product to fruition.

Casey Cole, CEO at Guru Systems, said:

Remote HIU commissioning is a valuable tool both before site handover and during operation as it supports lower cost and lower carbon heat networks.

Being shortlisted for this ADE award recognises both the huge amount of work Altecnic and Guru have put into this project over the past eighteen months, and also the huge potential that this technology can deliver for heat networks.

The award winners will be announced in April 2021.
